Overview

ALASKA'S OLDEST OPERATING SEAFOOD PLANT

The OBI Seafoods Petersburg facility was established in 1965 when four fishermen bought the plant that was about to be shut down and founded Icicle Seafoods. After Icicle’s merger with Ocean Beauty in 2020, the Petersburg plant became one of the backbones of OBI Seafoods operations. Situated in the heart of Petersburg, a town founded by Scandinavian fishermen on Frederick Sound in southeast Alaska, OBI Petersburg is the oldest operating seafood plant in the state, canning continuously since 1899. The plant produces all five species of salmon, halibut, sablefish, rockfish, crab, herring sac roe, and even sea cucumbers!

Careers

Working in Petersburg

"OBI provides great opportunities for career advancement. I started out working the summer months in Southeast Alaska in 2008 while going to college, breaking racks, and worked my way up to QA, operations and am now the plant manager at one of our largest plants."
